WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS TO DO THE THING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY A pitch-black comedy about Vivian, a lonely serial killer whose three loves in life are math, accounting, and killing random people. This all changes when she meets Alex, the man of her dreams. This cleverly scripted dark comedy manages to keep the audience on the edge of their seat for the entirety of the run. Fantastic humor, great acting, and decent effects push this short over the edge with a smooth and quick wit lead to pull it all together. The 'scary' aspect of the short is unfortunately pretty weak but the story and cast pick of the slack effortlessly. rating: 86%

IT’S ALL A TEST An inquisitive girl is convinced her dead father will soon be resurrected, certain he has died to test their love for him. However, when the corpse begins to rot, the girl is forced to reconsider the situation. Thrilling! This short is able to bring mass tension to the table through intense reading, passionate writing, patience and thrilling concepts. The short (although airing on the longer side) was able to pull the audience in using all of the listed tactics above. Although some minor pacing issues this film is definitely worth a watch and has the capabilities to easily make a 90 minute cut with some expansion on plot, added scenes, bigger budget, ect. Not much to say here but I would certainly recommend it 89%WHO ARE YOU? WHO WERE YOU?At a country manor in Edwardian England, a parlor trick becomes a bewitching, as one of the guests gets his dark desire. ah, Existential horror. The most underrated subgenre around. From the moment a frame hits the screen you are submerged in atmosphere and tone. The scripting feels so perfectly crafted as if each line was specifically tailored to be spoken the way it was. The short feels flawless, every error feels like it was put there for a reason and the horror aspect of the short is bone chilling. every single line, detail, and prop in this short is lovable and worth your time for a short and story bordering on flawless. RAting: 100%There’s something in Lindsay’s apartment… Props to this short for having an intelligent lead character! The short has a great utilization of lighting, writing, and suspence. The short gives you just enough content to tell the audience what they need to know and nothing more. The monster (although a little cheap looking) is effective and we see it just enough to be spooked. This one is enjoyable and I would recommend it rating: 78%SHE RUNS HOT. SHE MOVES FAST. SHE’S ONE HELL OF A RIDE.VICKI is a loving, somewhat subtly comedic homage to John Carpenter’s truly underrated Christine, adapted from the novel by Stephen King. It’s also a stand-alone tribute to 80′s horror in general, with very controlled compositions, non-choppy edits, a natural lighting style (like the master, Dean Cundy), and a killer synth soundtrack by Umberto and Time Fighter. This short Unfortunately has absolutely nothing to offer its audience. The advertising claims its a comedy which is almost never shown, there very few moments of gore or suspense, the plot is over done, and this film is shot in the most basic way possible. There's nothing wrong about it but nothing to great either. rating: 52%Alex's 16th birthday quickly takes a turn when he begins to discover the horror that is brewing under the surface of his family. Although a bit predictable and cheesy this short manages to have creative glimpses of originality and the pacing it wonderful, No scene felt to short or too long. The Atmosphere was well portrayed without being in your face and brash and the short does pass on those marrots... However the film falls flat in the story aspect. The story feels a bit predictable because of the dialogue. Everything is spoon fed to the audience as if they don't know how to use context clues and the mothers tone, although supposed to come off as bothersome to the son instead appears as belittling to the audience. Many films fail to respect their audience enough to imply things or leave mystery in the air and it makes the content quality suffer greatly. My rating: 76%A timid housewife is jolted into a fight for her survival or sanity when she thinks she hears her new partner at a weekly bridge game whisper a shocking threat.
This short is 5 minutes long and still manages to be to long, the writers could cut 2 minutes and nothing would change. If you've been following me for a while you've probably picked up on the fact that loud humor is 100% not my thing which is a down fall for this short over all not loving it. 65%This short was one I anticipated as I remember seeing a pilot for it a few years back and honestly, it lived up to the hype. Although lacking context the short manages to be extremely atmospheric. Although its rare you can feel the passion in someone's work Robert Morgans love for film shines through clear as day. This short is excellent Rating:80%A young mortician learns that not even death can stand in the way of true love. A whimsical, gothic bedtime story filled with love, loss, taxidermy, Kung Fu, and biker werewolves This bizarre film is nothing short of a live action cartoon, reminiscent of Series Of Unfortunate Events (The Netflix adaptation) with a loveable soundtrack, interesting plot, and great production value. The tone manages to carry over through every scene with ease and the film knows exactly how much time to spend in each spot. This is a rare occasion where a voice over feels not only welcome but necessary as well. The narration allows for a story book feel. Honestly this years challenge has been a bit exhausting because many horror shorts have similar tones or identical plots but this one felt like a breath of fresh air. rating:100% |
